George J. Ream, Jr.

 

 

George Ream, Jr., 77 of Kutztown, formerly of Topton, died suddenly on February 9, 2013. He was the husband of Shirley J. (Hilbert) Ream, whom he married November 13, 1954.

Born in Rockland Township, he was a son of the late George J. Sr. and Catherine E. (Seidel) Ream. George was a former member of New Jerusalem United Church of Christ, Rockland Township.

He was a Pennsylvania Army National Guard veteran of the Korea War, serving as a Corporal in the 213 Antiaircraft Gun Battalion.

Mr. Ream was a member of American Legion, Ray A. Master Post 217, Topton, PA, where he was serving as Commander until the time of his death. he previously served as Commander for 2 years. He also served as a Home Association Trustee for over 15 years. He was also a member of the Honor Guard.

George was employed as a truck driver for Giorgio Foods, Blandon, for 10 years until his retirement in 1997. Prior to that, he worked in the same capacity for Caloric Corporation and several other companies in the area. Recently, he was a bus driver for Wilson Manor, Saucony Meadows and Saucony Cross Retirement Centers, Kutztown.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include sons Michael A. husband of Christiana L. (Walters) Ream, Fleetwood; Terry L. Ream, companion of Shelly A. Trupp, Mertztown; Scott K. husband of Pamela J. (Benjamin) Ream, Topton; Barry L. husband of Tracy J. (Fenstermacher) Ream, Kutztown; and Timothy N. Ream, Kutztown; sisters Ruth E. (Ream) Gauby, Fleetwood; Betty J. (Ream) Snyder, Temple; June J. (Ream) McKentley, Fleetwood; brothers Dick H. Ream, Fleetwood; Ronald G. Ream, Mertztown; and Jack E. Ream, Fleetwood. There are also 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother, John G. Ream.

A graveside service will be private at the convenience of the family in Berks County Memorial Gardens, Fleetwood.
